Settlement
Arriving and settling are not the same thing.
We help with the things that block everything else: a SIN, a bank account, housing, a health card, schools for your children, and recognition for the credentials you already hold.
- WorkFind a role with an employer who hires newcomers.
- ImmigrateChoose the pathway your profile actually qualifies for.
- Settle — you are hereLand, build a life, and speak with confidence.
The first ninety days
In the order that actually unblocks things.
This list is a sequence, not a menu. Each item below opens the one after it, and doing them out of order is why the first months take longer than they need to.
- 01Social Insurance NumberYou cannot be paid without one. It is free, it takes minutes, and applying for it first unblocks everything below.
- 02A bank accountNewcomer accounts waive fees for the first year. We go through what to bring and which questions to expect.
- 03Somewhere to liveHow leases work here, what a landlord may and may not ask you, and what a reasonable deposit actually is.
- 04A provincial health cardCoverage starts on a different date in every province, and some have a waiting period you need interim insurance for.
- 05Schools for your childrenRegistration is by catchment area and needs proof of address, so it usually has to wait until housing is settled.
- 06Credential recognitionYour degree or trade certificate has to be assessed before most employers and regulators will count it. Start it early — it is the slowest item on this page.
- 07Credit history from zeroCanada does not import the credit record you spent years building. We show you how to start one that will survive a mortgage application.
- 08CommunityLanguage groups, faith communities and settlement agencies in the town you actually moved to, not the nearest big city.
Why we do this part
A job that does not survive the first winter helps nobody.
We help build communities across Canada, and settlement is the part that decides whether someone stays. Placing a worker in a town that cannot house them, or in a role their credentials are not recognised for, produces a vacancy again within a year. Doing it properly is what turns a hire into economic growth, cultural diversity, and a person who wanted to stay.
